Market Support and Local Enterprise Development

Procurement from BEE suppliers is a priority and almost 21% of the subsidiaries’ discretionary procurement is sourced from BEE suppliers.

In addition, the Group actively supports black SMMEs by offering preferential payment terms through its trading subsidiaries to black SMMEs.

Through its Skye subsidiaries, the Group supports approximately 3 000 customers, 80% of whom are HDSA, with favourable credit terms of the National Credit Act, to the value of almost R300 million.

The Group is committed to supporting local, independent traders and through strategic partnerships endeavours to ensure the continued existence of these SMMEs against the economic onslaught of large wholesalers and chain stores.

Local business in the clothing sector have been actively assisted and supported, in preference to foreign suppliers. As a part of the Group’s commitment to previously disadvantaged suppliers, two local clothing manufacturers were directly assisted with capital for staff training and equipment.
