Remuneration
- The group ensures that all employees are remunerated in accordance with
competitors, and all remuneration packages are market related.
- Remuneration packages are regularly reviewed and employees are financially
empowered based on outstanding work performance.
Benefits
- Employees are offered benefits in accordance with the Basic Conditions of Employment
Act (BCOEA)
- Provident Fund – All permanent administrative employees belong to
the Group Provident fund which is administered by Alexander Forbes and underwritten by Old
Mutual. All warehouse employees belong to the registered National Bargaining
Council Provident fund.
- Medical aid – All employees can join the Group medical aid (Discovery Health is
the service provider and it is administered by Lewin Consulting). Some employees
belong to the National Bargaining Council’s sick pay fund.
- Funeral scheme – The scheme is wholly subsidised by the Group and available to all
administrative employees. Warehouse employees are all members of the Union
Funeral Benefit Scheme.
Well being programme
- The Group supplies HIV/AIDS assistance upon request from employees and trauma counselling is also available when needed. Health and well-being programmes are
regularly scheduled for all employees, including voluntary testing for HIV/AIDS
and tuberculosis.
Health and Safety
- The group is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for
all employees.
- All relevant legislation within the Occupational Health and Safety Act of 1993
is fully complied with.
Skills Development
- The group's biggest aim with regard to developing skills and the supply of
training is targeted at empowering employees.
- This encompasses providing assistance to lower income employees in attaining a matric equivalent certificate to critical business skills such as brand
management.
- Computer training is provided for all administrative employees.
- Bursaries are generally granted when applied for by the applicant and approval
has been given.
Employment Equity
- The group is gradually moving towards representation as reported and planned
in the Employment Equity Reports submitted to the Department of Labour.
- The group is 100% pro-affirmative action.
- Each subsidiary has its own consultative forum with employees to ensure that
qualitative progress towards levels is met.
