corporate social investment
The Group is actively involved in numerous social investment, upliftment and charity programmes and has been for many years. The social development programme has been a key cornerstone of our business profile from inception, having historically provided bail money to opponents of the apartheid regime, to currently supporting numerous social investments, educational and developmental programmes throughout the country.
The Group is committed to long-term projects, rather than simply making donations.
Programmes Supported
At present the group supports the following major programmes:

U14 National Schools Soccer League
Sponsorship of the national under-14 schools soccer league through SAFA and USASSA to the value of R5 million over a three-year period, showcasing the Group’s commitment to the youth of the country and to the value of sport in uplifting and adding value to the lives of disadvantaged youth.

Bursaries
A bursary programme to historically disadvantaged students to the value of R700 000 over the past 20 years, which has produced over 100 university graduates.

Feeding Schemes
Various feeding schemes in the Cape Town area to the value of R250 000 pa, including support for schemes in disadvantaged communities in Khayelitsha, Delft, Retreat and District Six.

Soccer Development Programme
Proposed sponsorship of the PSL’s Golden Arrows development programme.
Charities
The various companies in the Group additionally support numerous charity appeals on an ongoing basis, including:
- a donation of Television sets to various children’s hospitals in Cape Town;
- contributions of over R2 million to, amongst others, Boys Town, the Johannesburg Children’s Home, the Topsy Foundation, the Red Cross
- Gift of the Givers Foundation.
The Group has engaged with the Western Cape Provincial Government to formulate a strategy to combat the use of drugs by the youth in the Western Cape.
